The mobility challenge recognises the changing urban environment and the opportunities that smart city technologies offer. Take the challenges on and imagine next generation urban mobility solutions and articulate how the solutions will benefit citizens, business community and Government.

We welcome entrepreneurs, researchers, scientists, students, and anyone eager to contribute, to jump into this challenge and imagine solutions which change behaviours. Enter as an individual or part of a team and you could win US$2000 and the chance to have your solution developed with AU$25,000 in funding through City of Newcastle's Startup Catapult program.

Hero-X Challenge

The challenge is focused on Behaviour Change: How can we use data to incentivize more sustainable transport use in Newcastle, Australia?

Here are some suggestions on how you could approach this challenge:

  1. Propose an economic pricing model for EV change points in Newcastle which will increase turnover and usage;

  2. Propose a solution using game design principles to spur people to consider a range of transport options;

  3. Propose a data integration solution which could help Newcastle citizens and visitors get a single view of multi modal transport options;

  4. Peak-hour congestion is pressing issues for public transport agencies around the world. How can we use transport capacity more efficiently to shift demand from peak to off-peak times

  • How might AI help vehicle-to-vehicle communication? 
    (eg helping one vehicle decide whether it should wait for another that is running late but without major impact on the rest of the network)
